Investigation of the oxygen reduction kinetics and mechanism on ordered mesoporouscarbon-supported Pt-based catalysts

The kinetics and mechanism of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on the surface Pt PtAgFe catalysts supported by ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) were investigated. Metal particles loaded wet impregnation-reduction method two types OMC, one being surface-modified HNO3 other unmodified. Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed that modified namely Pt/OMC-M, had highest electroactive area among OMC-supported catalyts with 987 cm2/mg. This catalyst also a mass activity 39.1 mA/mgPt, which was same as black commercial Pt/C catalyst. Rotating disk electrode (RDE) studies revealed net number transferred electrons for OMC in range between 3 4, indicating predominant 4-electron water formation route. ORR mechanisms Pt/OMC PtAgFe/ found to be similar Pt/C; however, associative pronounced at wider potential range. higher activities general.
